When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze. Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there - or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything - even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horror that patrol its corridors, to try and find out.

"I really enjoyed the adventure of this book, into another world"

"This is my second time now reading "The Maze Runner" I read it years ago at the age it was intended for. I can understand why people don't like this book and series, and even Dashner as an author. I don't think he writes incredibly gripping characters and some of the events that happen in his books feel incredibly superficial. But those are adult critiques coming from an adult, I think Dashner's books created magic for 10–13-year-old me and I think he's done that for many other kids as well, and that's applaud-worthy. "The Maze Runner" is action-packed if nothing else. I'm re-reading these for the over a million ratings challenge and can't say I didn't enjoy this one. I do remember the series gets progressively more boring though. We'll see how it goes. "
"Wasn’t as good as the movie unfortunately, but still really fun to read. I think I would have loved it more if I’d read it before watching the movies. "
