"After reading the book description, I was excited about this book. I was looking forward to reading this “winning novel.” It turned out that the book description was written better than this book. Unfortunately.
I am not saying I regret reading this book, but I am glad I’m done and can move on to my next story.
I felt the writing was very similar to “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” in regards to chapter structure, but instead of taking us on the journey that Sherman Alexie took the reader on, Johnathon Evison spent over half of the book telling the reader the background of Mike Muñoz and his story and the last 10% of the story finally showing the reader what was happening in Mike’s life. The last 10% was my favorite part of the book.
I feel like this is a “take it or leave it” book. Like I said, I don’t regret giving this story time, but had I known how it was going to be, I might not have considered it. "
"Made me laugh. And truly a story about the “Not So Great American Dream” with the natural human faults and how we overcome them. A heartwarming surprise ending too! #comedy #ModernAmericadrama #comingofage #fiction"
