Barney Greenwald, a skeptical lawyer, reluctantly defends an officer of the navy who took control of the Caine from its captain, Lt. Philip Francis Queeg, while caught in a violent sea storm. As the court-martial proceeds, however, Greenwald increasingly questions if it was truly a mutiny or rather the courageous acts of a group of sailors who could not trust their unstable leader.

"Even if it doesn't quite reach the heights of the 1954 version (simply titled THE CAINE MUTINY), it is still extremely good (and engrossing) on it's own terms, and it is very well directed and acted. I do find it interesting that this version of the film takes the 12 ANGRY MEN approach in terms of using expositionary dialogue to reveal the events in the leadup to the mutiny as opposed to showing it (which the 1954 version does), yet it largely works thanks to effective dialogue delivery by the cast as well as the direction (on top of having the benefit of seeing the 1954 version myself). Great performances across the board, with the late Lance Reddick as the MVP, as well as Kiefer Sutherland (who does a great job of making the Captain Queeg character (played magnificently by Humphrey Bogart in the 1954 version) his own), Monica Raymund, and Jason Clarke (with a memorable cameo by Lewis Pullman, who is proving to be surprisingly good actor among the works I've seen from him so far). This is a hell of a note to end a career on for both Lance Reddick and especially the legendary director William Friedkin (both of them sadly passed away this year, and this is a posthumous release for both of them). Highly recommend checking out both this and the 1954 versions. Would love to see this get some Emmy Awards recognition."

"This is a pure courtroom drama, told without flashbacks or B plot. It leans into the limitations associated with adapting a stage play and turns them into a strength, assembling a murder’s row of character actors and just letting them cook. This was William Friedkin’s final directorial effort and one of Lance Reddick’s final performances. It’s a worthy epilogue for both of them. 4 out of 5 stars."

"A hardcore courtroom movie, where the whole plot is developed inside the courtroom, as if we were spectators at the trial. Everything in the movie takes place through stories, reports and questions, there are no external scenes or visual references, which makes the movie more difficult for audiences who want more scenes and dynamics, but more enjoyable for those who like a script based entirely on a great text and fabulous performances that enhance the movie. Even though it's based on reports, it's a gripping movie with some very tense moments."

"I watched this movie over the weekend. Wow! Just wow! Thank you for the great acting to all the actors in this movie! Thank you for the scripts to the writers! They made me go through many emotions back and forth. How they did it? The entire movie happens in one room. I am still in a pleasant shock how convincing was their acting. Just amazing! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼"
