"Brilliant and heartwarming to bring Monk back! The world needs Monk, the finicky, neurotic, germophobe, obsessive, and peculiar character with a heart of gold. While the molly character could have been better or developed nicely, seeing everyone else was nostalgic. Monk is lonely and the movie revolves around the murder of his soon to be SIL , it also revolves around Monk own personal trials and fears. The movie have one of the best endings ever. I highly recommend 👌 also yoy might need tissues.
Trigger warning ⚠️ suicidal thoughts and depression.

"+ Tony Shalhoub is great as always, and it was nice seeing the characters after years of the show being off the air. If you like the old episodes, this will satisfy as an extended one hour forty minute episode.
Having said that...
- Sadly, I didn't feel like the series regulars (such as Ted Levine, Traylor Howard, and Jason Gray-Stanford) felt all that consequential to the show. It was nice seeing them and there are some cool, funny moments, but overall we are more updated on their character's current circumstances and then thrown into a story featuring a dark subplot involving Monk's suicidal plans, his stepdaughter (which I wasn't aware he had, maybe she was mentioned in the later seasons which I didn't finish, or in the novels), and then we kind of go through the motions until Monk solves the case with their help. Their relationships and change in circumstances are more mentioned than explored. This would have been a good reboot pilot, but it doesn't quite make it as a feature film or even TV movie. I also thought it could be overly sentimental and the way it plays with Monk's ghost encounters isn't consistent with the old show. I wish the characters acknowledged Monk's suicidal state of mind more, and that his stepdaughter was focused on a little better.
Other than that: It's entertaining, and Shalhoub really is great. "
