Loner Mark Lewis works at a film studio during the day and, at night, takes racy photographs of women. Also he's making a documentary on fear, which involves recording the reactions of victims as he murders them. He befriends Helen, the daughter of the family living in the apartment below his, and he tells her vaguely about the movie he is making.

"Released the same year as Psycho, Peeping Tom explored many of the same subjects (voyeurism, parental abuse and sexual repression). While Hitchcock’s movie was a box office sensation, Peeping Tom basically ended the directing career of Michael Powell (The Red Shoes, The Life & Death of Colonel Blimp). It is a great film though, innovative and unnerving. Carl Boehm, who looks like a mix Peter O’Toole and Peter Lorre, plays the lead as someone who is desperately trying to blend into the background even as his urges push him towards adding to his “documentary” of death and terror. It is more a suspense film or psychological thriller than a horror movie but I think its critical re-appraisal as a classic is well earned. 4.5 out of 5 stars"

"For my 31st movie, I always like to do something special, and there are few things more special than the godfather of modern slasher films. A movie that shocked audiences so much it tanked the career of the man that made it.
If there's one thing that people should know about me it's that banned and controversial media is one of the most fascinating things to me. It has been for a long time.
Does knowing the story behind this impact my view of this movie? Undoubtedly. Do I think I still would have liked this regardless? Yeah. This movie is suspenseful, and engaging, and lurid. It is leaps and bounds ahead of its time from content to execution. I'm glad I finally got around to watching it."
