"This was an excellent dark comedy drama, inspired by a true story, based on a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran coming to terms with her grief, along with a few family and other complications. The two leads, Sonequa Martin-Green and Natalie Morales, did a fantastic job, along with Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman. It kept my attention throughout, and it surely got me wondering what really happened... It gave hints here and there in short flashbacks, not revealing what I was trying to figure out until the ending, of which I didn't quite expect... All in all I felt this was a well-done movie. I also see it's rated 100% on the Tomatometer. This movie should be in theaters starting 2/28/25, but I was able to catch a one-time sneak peek of the entire movie 2/20/25 on the AARP Streams app, of which was a worthwhile watch, yes.

"I really didn’t know what to expect from this one and I was pleasantly surprised. A woman that was in the military has a mental break and she imagines her dead friend is right there with her communicating like she normally would. I’m glad this wasn’t used as some sort of gimmick for laughs. We get flashbacks of their relationship and we can see how great their friendship was. Now that she has passed its pretty heartbreaking to see them together knowing this is juts in her mind and she can’t move one. All this is going on while her grandfather is sick and may not be able to care for himself anymore. She is dealing with that while trying to work through her problems. They do eventually tell us what happened to Zoe and you will completely understand why she can’t seem to deal with the loss. This movie is an excellent example of two things. Learning that talking about an issue can be a big help in dealing with trauma. Let’s you know that people care and may be able to relate. Always remember to check in on your loved ones. You never know what they are dealing with or what’s behind the smile. Take those few minutes to ask, make that call or visit. You don’t want to be in a position where you are sorry you didn’t. This is a must see for sure that will make you tear up a little bit. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movie Reviews with Clarence for a more detailed breakdown. "An absolutely beautiful movie. Deep, emotional, and heartfelt throughout. The acting was fantastic across the board and the chemistry between Martin-Green and Morales is perfect. I would not be surprised to see an Oscar nod for some part of this in 2025.
This is a must see for any veteran and for those who have loved ones that have served.
I would recommend this to everyone!"
