The takeaway being that community, compassion, and belonging should extend to all individuals; to take a second look at the lives of those that we don't think should be deserving of those things, because of the privileges that we've taken for granted."

"The Best Christmas Pageant Ever tells the moving story of one family's efforts to include the town's outcast ne'er-do-well kids through a lens of shoddy writing and shabby acting, and wrapped up by a shaky epilogue that only seems to exist to give narrator Lauren Graham some screentime. It often fails to connect scenes' beats tonally, and it narrates explicitly things that have already been effectively shown. Set and prop designs are good, and the cinematography is decent. Judy Greer's performance as matriarch Grace Bradley seems to have been written for her to the point that, despite her memoir's title, I will be able to remember at least two roles of hers off the cuff (this and Arrested Development). Young Beatrice Schneider's performance as Imogene Herdman is also solid. She may be one to watch as time goes on. Despite the film's flaws, it does its job of reminding us that the first Christmas, like life, was not neat and tidy, that doing the right thing often causes things not to go to plan, and that Jesus was born for all, as well as giving us something about which to tear up. Despite its flaws, this will become a part of my family's regular Christmas lineup."

Their antics, from spitting gum on the stage to demanding the starring roles, provided some genuinely funny moments. The young actors portraying them were incredibly talented, capturing the mischievous spirit of the characters perfectly. However, I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the overly sentimental and preachy moments. While the film's message about acceptance and finding joy in unexpected places is ultimately positive, it felt a bit heavy-handed at times. Ultimately, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" is a mixed bag. It's a decent holiday film with some entertaining moments, but it's not without its flaws. If you're looking for a lighthearted and humorous Christmas movie without too much religious emphasis, you might want to look elsewhere. Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Recommendation: If you can tolerate a bit of religious messaging, and you enjoy a good dose of holiday chaos, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" might be worth a watch."
