"The concept and plot for this movie were extremely unique, but I felt like the film overall was missing a "wow" factor. The little girl was an incredible actress, and I admired her acting skills very much. The film felt like it was dragged out way longer than what was needed to prove a point, and I felt that the ending was abrupt and rushed. This film had the potential to be so much greater, but I felt like it severely fell short. I give it 3 stars because it isn't a completely bad movie in my opinion, it had some amazing elements, but overall it didn't make my list for the best movies I've seen this year for sure. If you like werewolf themed movies and enjoy plot twists, this is definitely a film worth checking out. It will not resonate with everyone, but I feel like some people will find it more entertaining than others. "
"I was excited to see a new werewolf movie but this really disappointed me.
While the acting of the little girl was too notch, the movie sucked! There was not much of character build up which is IMO key to a good werewolf film - get to know the human side which later can be contrasted with the more animalistic version of that person. There was not much of that and whatever they did have was thrown in haphazardly in the middle. If you want a good werewolf movie, go rewatch “Wolf” with Jack Nicholson.
***spoiler alert****
This is basically not a werewolf movie but rather a movie that is about an abusive husband who takes it out on his wife. The story is told through the daughters’ eyes who sees her father as an OK father who turns into a monster and beats his wife. Wether the werewolf aspect is just the child’s way of rationalizing or compartmentalizing her father when in one of his fits of anger or something else it’s not really clear but either way, as the final scene shows there was never really a werewolf. That was supposed to be the big reveal at the end but it didn’t have that effect at all but rather just made the whole build up quite pointless.
If we go with the premise that this whole analogy was just an analogy about an abusive husband then it doesn’t really make sense of the scenes where he supposedly only turns into a ‘werewolf’ once a month, or why he gets chained up in some abandoned building. If we do go with the premise that he is an actual werewolf, then this is still@a terrible werewolf movie. The monster scenes don’t even give us much of what fans of the genre are after, and then when we do see him the longest in his werewolf form it’s really bad.
I do not recommend this movie. "
"If you’re looking for the next great werewolf movie do yourself a favor and stay away from this one. It’s a jumbled mess. Very poor directing and editing. Kit Harrington and the other actors are good, but the material is clunky and disjointed. They tried to do a big twist and it not made it worse. You’re better off rewatching Dog Soldiers, The Howling, American Werewolf in London, Underworld, or Skinwalkers. I wish that’s what I had done instead of this pile of crap."
"If you want a good werewolf movie, this is not that. That being said, it is a good movie. It is very artfully done and the acting is great, but if you go in thinking you're getting a good monster movie for spooky season, you will probably be disappointed.
I might add more stars after rewatching it now that I know what it is. "
