"Such a fascinating film! An incredibly ambitious and sprawling (even if long) biopic of Jack Reed, an American journalist who covered the October Revolution of 1917-1918 through his book "10 Days That Shook The World", covering simultaneously both his political and romantic lives (the latter with Louise Bryant). I was particularly fascinated by the director-star Warren Beatty's decision to go back and forth between the film and actual interviews of real-life people who knew Reed and Louise Bryant, giving the movie a quasi-documentary feel. Incredible production values, cinematography, performances (Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, and Maureen Stapleton MVP (a deserved win for Maureen), and even cameos by Gene Hackman and Paul Sorvino prove to be memorable). Even features score composed by both Stephen Sondheim and Dave Grusin. This was truly an incredible acting showcase for Diane Keaton especially, who really got a meaty role here to showcase her acting range, and she more than delivered (kind of surprised she did not win an Oscar for this). Equally impressive is Warren Beatty's ambition (he acted, directed, co-wrote, and produced the film, and received Oscar nominations in all 4 categories (the only ever person in Oscars history to do this, and that too twice)), and he really deserved the Directing Oscar he won for this. Frankly, I'm amazed that a film like this was even made in the first place, especially given how politically bold it is. Highly recommended."
