"This drama is about a southern family in Louisiana and strongly their ties to southern customs. Betty Davis plays Julie, the love interest of Henry Fonda's character, Preston. George Brent plays the family friend named Buck. The plot revolves around Julie's family and their strong southern roots: honor above all, and social graces that mean everything. When headstrong Julie tests the boundaries of the polite society, everything changes for her. The movie also briefly shows what the south was like in the 1800s just before the civil war, so the depictions of Black Americans are unkind. The acting was good, but overall the story was only fairly entertaining."
