"The Interview is a story of trust, betrayal, comedy, romance, bromance, and everything in between.
Despite being seen as the sort of comedic-relief character (and the reason why this whole movie is considered a comedy), David Skylark (James Franco) delivers an outstanding performance. In a way, it reminds me of Jim Carrey’s characters in some of the movies he plays.
David Skylark and Aaron Rapapport (Seth Rogan) show a true bromance between each other, their personalities were both so alike but so different that it creates a true friendship of understanding each other. David speaks through his heart, and Aaron usually speaks by thinking it through. This is shown in numerous scenes where David could reference a show or movie a couple of times, using emotion and reference- game to make a personal connection to something or someone. This unlike Aaron, where he is the one who tries to get David out of trouble and tries to make sense of situations, using his head to put pieces together.
Despite this movie being all comedic and fun, there is a development of trust between Aaron and David throughout the movie. At times, it is broken or disrupted, but they learn to trust each other in the end, and they both realise that they are not just co-workers anymore, but that they are brothers, brothers who have each other’s back no matter what.
This is the kind of character development I want to see in shows and movies. It’s well written and they get through obstacles together, making sure one or the other stays out of the worst possible danger.
The cast is so comedically outstanding and brilliant- Lizzy Caplan, Randall Park, James France, and Seth Rogen all being in a movie together was something I did but didn’t need."
"Completely inappropriate and the humor is terrible."
