A seaside hotel for senior citizens is the setting for late-season love as costars Jean Simmons and Joss Ackland meet and make a match in this romantic human drama. Gerald's a stuffy ex-stockbroker who's been placed in the facility for his own best interest. Katherine's a warm and friendly resident with a soaring spirit and a zest for life. Their union is a transforming one, and also timely, as Katherine stands on the threshhold of a painful and very frightening battle with cancer. Poignant storytelling with a winning pair of costars.

"FIRST OFF: Don't read LW's Summary description here if you plan on watching this, as it gives away too much in my opinion. I think one might get more out of this movie without knowing what LW's Summary describes. Even if one reads it, not a total spoiler, but I think it's better not to know something major that's revealed there. After having recently watched the series, "A Man on the Inside," this movie came to mind due to a few similarities (yet still different), so decided on a rewatch and glad to have found this on a few different streaming services, some free. I had seen this movie a number of times in the longer past. It was as good as I remember, if not better. Stars Joss Ackland (Gerald Carmody) and Jean Simmons (Katherine Palmer). Joss (Gerald) plays the part of such a humorous, witty grump. Jean (Katherine) and everyone else is great in this too. A very touching and enjoyable movie with bits of humor as well as seriousness, featuring mostly elderly people living in a seaside resort hotel. Filmed in Cornwall, England. That's all I'll say. For the rest, one just has to watch it.
