"Tom Hanks typically chooses interesting projects, and that is what this movie is... Interesting. That is not to say that this is a great movie, but it is good. A quick watch with some humor in an interesting setting, Saudi Arabia. Definitely worth a watch but that's all, not multiple viewings. 6.5/10"
"+/- This aims for a tone much like a mixture of Stranger Than Fiction and Cedar Rapids, only it isn't quirky enough to match the former, nor sweet and light enough to make you care for the characters like the latter. It's as if there is a potential to explore the purgatorial world of the main character who is in a rush to make things happen for himself financially and personally with the dilemma of him being stuck in his pursuits. Only the character (played by Tom Hanks) doesn't display the urgency that would make us interested in his plight, nor do the subplots propel him into action. The result is a mixed bag where on one hand we view a visually well-made movie with a few strong key performances, and on the other hand we are left with a boring plot that is supported with a mediocre story, and doesn't quite show resolution for at least one key important story thread (involving the main character and the driver who becomes his friend and escorts him through Saudi Arabia). The movie is good enough to see through once, but not really worth going out of your way to watch. A bit of a disappointment."
"There isn't a terrific amount of comedy here; but, it is a good, quiet film about an awkward situation. American arrogance is in full bloom at the beginning and is shuffled off as the story progresses. Sarita Choudhury is typically excellent. Tom brings charm to what could be a listless character. "
