Showman Jerry Travers is working for producer Horace Hardwick in London. Jerry demonstrates his new dance steps late one night in Horace's hotel room, much to the annoyance of sleeping Dale Tremont below. She goes upstairs to complain and the two are immediately attracted to each other. Complications arise when Dale mistakes Jerry for Horace.

"Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers give wonderful performances in this film. I felt that Fred and Ginger had more of a feeling of friendship and admiration than they did in the film Shall we Dance? The scale of this film is grandiose, with the large sets and dance numbers. Although I like the film, the mistaken identity plot was really stretched out for an almost 2 hour runtime. But that can be forgiven since we watch these films for the performances and not for a love story."
