Taking its title from an archaic Japanese word meaning "ghost story," this anthology adapts four folk tales. A penniless samurai marries for money with tragic results. A man stranded in a blizzard is saved by Yuki the Snow Maiden, but his rescue comes at a cost. Blind musician Hoichi is forced to perform for an audience of ghosts. An author relates the story of a samurai who sees another warrior's reflection in his teacup.

"I wanted to like this movie so bad but there 3 hour long slow burn movies can be rough. I kept dozing off for a minute or letting my mind wander then I would miss something and be lost for awhile. It's an anthology and some vignettes were stronger than others. It had strong visuals throughout though so it wasn't a wash or anything. I really liked the surrealist eyeball filled skies of the second vignette."
