"⭐️3.5⭐️ This #gritty #western is like a #mysterious puzzle since the story is somewhat told in reverse. I found that aspect intriguing. But, Boy! It’s bleak…
BRIMSTONE, starring Dakota Fanning as a young pioneer woman living in frontier times is gritty & could possibly be a bit tough for some to sit through, but nevertheless, and in spite of all that it held my interest. Guy Pierce plays a truly manipulative, vengeful & diabolical “wolf in sheep’s clothing,” “fire & brimstone” preacher who makes Hamish Linklater’s priest in Midnight Mass (who was amazing, btw) seem like a good guy.
Blood, gore, & death prevail, as characters are beaten, strangled, stabbed, shot, shackled, hung, whipped, etc… & there's a scene in an old west brothel with the suggestion of rape as a child looks on ⚠️ Not quite the #mystery film I was expecting at all 😳 But, Hellfire & Damnation, this was good! Good as Hell! …
… Well, JK, maybe not quite THAT ‘devine’ 😉 … I just wanted to be dramatic & spit words with religious connotations😇😈
#violent
#psychological 😱🐺
Alrighty, I need a good laugh now after that movie. Gonna go watch some ‘FRIENDS’ now …
RIP, Matthew Perry 😢 10/28/23"
"This is the tragic tale of one woman's life in the old west. It's told in four parts, out of sequence, so it takes a while to get a clear picture of what is going on and why. Guy Pierce plays his part as a sadistic preacher so well that it gets really creepy and will make your skin crawl. Dakota Fanning does a great job as well. Kit Harrington has a small part too. It was a little too long and moved pretty slow, but overall kept me engaged. I give it a 7/10."
"The film is cinematic and very well acted, and that is the end of the positives. It is pretty much one big trigger warning. "
