"This actually felt real to me because I have always been toxic in a relationship, which is why I am happiest being single. Hallie (Emma Roberts) was an interesting character to me. She wasn't a great person when it came to any kind of romantic relationship. I don't think she knows what she wants and so is all over the place. We never find out why she is like this but it doesn't really matter. So many young adults (and old adults!) don't have a clue about what they want out of a long-term relationship. They think they want one thing but then change their mind only to find themselves wanting back what they just ended. It's so tiring and sad. My whole life was like that until I finally realized I didn't need a man in my life. In fact, I didn't WANT a man in my life. Ever since then I have been so happy and content.
I definitely related to both girls and have known men like both of the male characters. But that didn't make the movie particularly great. It was ok. It was NOT a rom-com. It was more just a summer in the lives of four young adults as they try to figure out what they truly want. It was interesting but not a happy movie. The end scene that went on through the closing credits was just sad to me. It shows the promise of what once could have been. I'll leave it at that so as not to spoil it.
Michael Angarano is cute, as usual. Emma Roberts is a good actress, as usual. A solid 3*s."
