"River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves(best friends irl) ... Here's a synopsis :
In this loose adaptation of Shakespeare's "Henry IV," Mike Waters (River Phoenix) is a gay hustler afflicted with narcolepsy. Scott Favor (Keanu Reeves) is the rebellious son of a mayor. Together, the two travel from Portland, Oregon to Idaho and finally to the coast of Italy in a quest to find Mike's estranged mother. Along the way they turn tricks for money and drugs, eventually attracting the attention of a wealthy benefactor and sexual deviant.
This was not expected of the two stars but it is a painful story worth seeing. Recommended. "
"Shakespeare for disillusioned, poor, young, queer contemporary America. This is probably the greatest Shakespeare that isn't actually Shakespeare ever. River Phoenix is like an angel from another planet, and we were lucky he ever existed here at all. Keanu & River together epitomize youth, pain, and ecstasy; and the well of individual memory that is all that remains of love which never came to be, because the world wouldn't give it a space to bloom."
"Adaptation of the play "Henry IV.""
