"The plot hook could read: “A bomb is on board public transit and it will go off if it goes under 50 mph” but this isn’t Speed, it’s the 1975 Japanese film that inspired it. I decided to watch it as a curiosity but I ended up pleasantly surprised by this movie. It feels like a mix between the original Pelham 123 and a 70s disaster movie. Ken Takakura plays the lead hijacker/bomber and Sonny Chiba plays against type as the the terrified train conductor. It’s a little slow starting but tension does build nicely through the last half of the movie. Note: The Tubi version is a bastardized release that cuts 45 mins from the movie and adds bad English dubbing. Find the Japanese version if you want to watch the film. 3.5/5"
