"4.25⭐️ I loved everything about this movie! It lives and breathes the city of Oakland and hits on so much from race dynamics to police violence to gentrification, appropriation and so much more. It’s asks who can claim a city as their own, who deserves second chances, and who gets to live or die. The issues it covers are heavy but the film’s humor, brightness and vivacity belie that fact, even as I was perpetually holding my breath. This crazy muted tension masterfully underscores the entire film even when it seems like a comedy, so that when the violence comes you’re not ready for the atrocity of it. This film will have you thinking and feeling…angry, frustrated and horrified but laughing and hopeful. Though I’m no longer there Oakland always has my heart. The two leads, Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal also wrote the screenplay and you can feel that in their script as well. "
"The tension is a full on panic attack... things might change for the better if everyone could feel this movie "
