"As a black man it was really refreshing to see a film about black life that isn’t centered around someone getting shot, selling drugs, caught up in hood drama or some other negative depiction that often gets portrayed in film in regards to black life. Tbf, there is quite a bit of drama in this film but not the kind that is typical in a lot black films, the drama is more of a really interesting slow burn and helps the main character develop and I really appreciated that. Also it was very nice to see two black men that are very close to one another that aren’t related but also aren’t gay(not that there’s anything wrong with that), it’s just that imo there’s just not enough films depicting the often close platonic relationships that black men have that don’t devolve into negativity or are played off of for comedic relief, that’s what stands out the most in this film for me. I also loved how the city was pretty much a character itself with all of these interesting smaller characters creating a larger one which is San Francisco. It definitely made feel like I would’ve loved living there, before the gentrification of course. I kinda feel bad that I had waited so long to finally watch it because it’s definitely a must see if you want something different that makes you feel something."
