"This is a family drama with a crime element added to it. The first half of Finestkind is spent on character development and we get a glimpse of what deep-sea scallop fishing is like, which I have no clue about but seems very authentic. The second half of the film we get a one time drug smuggling deal gone bad, so the movie really picks up momentum. A great cast led by Ben Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, and Jenna Ortega. Also starring Toby Wallace who looks so familiar but I just can't place where I know him from. Also supporting roles from Lolita Davidavich and Tim Daly (who I didn't recognize at first). Well acted by an excellent cast. At its core, it's a story of fathers' love for their sons. Definitely worth a watch. 8.5/10"
"I found Finestkind quite fine!! The scallop fishing was interesting, and I felt like I was on that boat in the choppy water with the whales... I see filming started in New Bedford, plus a few other places in Massachusetts. Cool ambiance all around. You first have the story setup and then later it gets REALLY INTENSE. All in all, through this dysfunctional family's various traumas, it's probably a story of the bonding of brothers and the fathers who will do anything for their sons. The brothers are Ben Foster as Tom and Toby Wallace as Charlie. I watched for Tommy Lee Jones mostly, and you also see Jenna Ortega, Tim Daly, and Lolita Davidovich. I didn't recognize Tim Daly at first, but I could then see that was him. I noticed Taylor Sheridan was one of the producers, and I know he's been involved with several GREAT series. Thanks for your review, @FilmFan, which prompted me to finally see it and glad I did. Also, @matandaudrey, provided you have not seen this yet, it seems to be a movie you might go for."
