"4.5/5*s
My daughter watched this a few years ago and ended up telling me all about. I thought it sounded too sad for me but I've been thinking about the movie frequently lately. I just really wanted to watch it all of a sudden and I'm glad I did.
Yes, I knew going into it what was going to happen but the telling of the story is so good. If you read my reviews, you will know how much I look for originality in the things that I watch. For me, this one hit all the marks. My only complaint is the horrible imagery of animals. There are a few scenes that flash by through the montages of what is happening in the world as more and more "things" are lost to people. There is a horrible short showing what looks to be a (hopefully) dead dog being skinned for food. And lots of other dead animals. As a moral vegetarian (meaning I don't eat meat due to my own morals towards animals), this was exceptionally difficult to watch. And I know it's real footage, not fake imagery recorded for the movie. So that's a warning for others who are like me. I didn't watch the end credits but I doubt it says anything about "no animals were harmed in the making of this movie."
SPOILER
So if you can get past that, the story is so interesting and original on its take on the end of the world as we know it. And it's also a beautiful love story. I didn't cry but my daughter did. You might, too."
"Absolutely spectacular film. The score is to die for. "
