"Very well acted coming of age/family story mined from writer/director James Gray’s own childhood. Jewish 12 year old battles his parents and teachers but also finds out what a life of privilege he has. All the actors were great but I love any time I get to watch Jeremy Strong. This may be too slow/boring for some but if you’re willing to lean in it’s not a bad watch. "
"Based on the life of the director / writer. The title suggests excess and big drama but the movie is about compromise and diverted intent in racialized America and the ability to hide your identity or not. Anthony Hopkins is Brillo as is the young star, Banks Repeta. Ann Hathaway is amazing in a non comedic role. "
