"This movie is a fun kids movie geared towards girls. It tries to capture the beauty of nature and the wild animals that inhabit it while entertaining your young ones with jokes and interesting characters.
As for being the long awaited sequel to Spirit though, it does fall flat. In fact, the TV show version of this very movie did a better job of being a sequel in the 1st episode than this entire movie did. Now granted, the movie had a lot to cover in a short amount of time while the TV show had plenty of other episodes & seasons to get further into the characters backgrounds.
The thing about the original Spirit was how mystical, unique, & heartbreaking it was. The entire thing truly screamed dreamworks with visuals & a deep story. This movie is more a younger sibling to that one that has Spirit as a character (& forgets about his love interest). In fact, it's more an American Girl adaptation than a Spirit one. However, one big critique people have on Spirit is that history proved it wrong. That the railroad was built & Spirits home was eventually invaded. This does show the railroad continued & couldn't be stopped which we at least get to see how Spirit deals with that. They just had to have the ironic twist with who Lucky is.
Now the reason this story works is its from a more relatable female perspective than a horse one. Spirit was a great movie but a tad too deep for kids. This one still gets most of the message through but still entertains children.
As for the TV show fans, this is different & not what you know. It's the same characters, a few added new ones, and same backgrounds playing out in a new storyline. You'll be a bit thrown by Snips & other changes but it is the story you love with some incredible songs. They're very sweat & inspiring while keeping a nice beat & lyrics to invest you.
Overall, it is a story your boys may grow disinterested in, your girls will want a horse, and older fans will be said Spirit has lost his frontal role. Still, its good."
