"A musical adaptation of the book of the same name with some changes of characters from the book, but worth watching as the musical numbers and story expand on the world built and give a new past to a character!"

"A great musical adaptation of the original. We learn more of Honey's story in this version as well."

"I cannot put into words how much I loved this movie, but I’ll try. This is everything a musical adaptation should be. Larger than life, vibrant, and respectful to the source material. It took what was amazing about the stage musical and adjusted what it needed to to be fit for the screen. The choreography, the sets, the costumes, and of course, the singing were all perfect. Lashana Lynch was the perfect Miss Honey and her singing voice is stunning. It was so fun seeing Emma Thompson in a villain role and she crushed it! But not even their performances could compare to Matilda herself, Alisha Weir. She was spunky, lovable, and so so believable. She’s got a successful career ahead of her. With all the musical adaptations coming our way in the next couple years, if THIS is the caliber of film we have to look forward to, then us musical theatre fans are gonna be really happy."

"Meh. I don’t know why they changed so much the story. The original is much much better. Still putting a thumbs up "

"I liked this movie. It was very cute. Not as striking, or as shocking as the 90s movie was (The cake scene will forever be in my nightmares), but it’s a good movie, and I’m glad they kept some scenes like when Mrs. Trunchbull grabs a girl by her pigtails and flings her far.
The music was standard musical stuff, with the stand out being The Smell of Rebellion.
Pretty decent recommend, especially if you’re a fan of the 90s movie and/or musicals.

"Y’all- I get it, OG Matilda was a classic, BUT THIS ONE??? I couldnt have expected it to be so different but innovative, just give it a watch, be open minded, it’s really good. Also I knew Revolting Children was a broadway bop before watching this movie but those kids SANG their hearts out"

"I loved the original but not this remake. This one pretty awful. I do like the choice of actors, but the overall magic of the original was NOT in this one. "
