"Okay, so maybe now I truly understand what people mean when they say old Disney is better than new Disney. I remember disliking this movie as a kid. Honestly, I think it was overplayed in my house and school, so I just got sick of it. Then I avoided it like the plague until today. I saw a clip of it & remembered nothing about the movie. I needed to rewatch it.
It starts off with the classic early 2000s voice-over. Only difference is that its with a dog. And it's a lot of fun. He can be a bit much but it kind of worked. Plus the other people and animals are just so real yet touching. I realized why it was such a classic.
There were constantly times the movie truly moved me. Whether it was the joy in a bond between pet and owner, or the sadness of what happened on screen. When I tell you I physically gasped and covered my mouth at moments, believe me, it shocked me too. Holy frig, I truly forgot this movie and the moments surprised me. Especially with how movies nowadays act I lazily predicted how it would go because movies nowadays would do something along those lines. But no this movie changed things up. It made its own thing and reminded me why expectation subversion plague every movie so much nowadays. I guess the refreshing moment I needed was a touch of the earlier Disney days to remind me why Disney is the powerhouse it is now. (Not that it wasn't already when the movie came out but it's truly taken over now)
This felt so pure and magical. I also was constantly wondering how in the world they filmed this movie. Like someone please tell me. I'm not even joking or anything. I NEED the bonus features Pronto! Not a single moment seemed like CGI so somebody has got to explain this marvelty and getting animals to ACT! What the heck?! (Yes I understand they played the dialogue to what happened but let me have this)
Overall, a classic for a reason that still holds up. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and you get emotionally invested. It's also super heartwarming."
"After watching the original movie "The Incredible Journey" (1963) I have to say this remake is an improvement since they gave the animals voices and as a result gave them more personality than they did in the original. This helps in being invested in their struggle to find their human family. "Homeward Bound" is a childhood classic for me."
