"A beautifully realised slab of nostalgia - taking in numerous ideas to really get the juices flowing, while delivering a fun satanic horror at the same time. It's soft horror; there's no gore or anything, but that just helps to add to the charm. The fact that the cast is a bunch of kids left home alone helps too. The special effects are absolutely great; actual effort went into this one. Sacrifyx has got to be the coolest fictional metal band of all time. Once The Gate gets going, it doesn't let up. This is an absolutely great piece of eighties horror."
"This movie was so deliciously 80s, the nostalgia alone made it totally worth my time. I grew up in midwestern America in the 80s and the fashions, hairstyles, the way they talked, the little details of this movie were spot on for the time period (right down to the big fat D batteries that saved the day at the end). It was made in Canada so I'm sure that's why I'd never hear of it before now. I'd like to find more hidden gems from my childhood that I never knew existed. "
"An honestly really gorgeous 80s practical effects movie. Things get progressively more batshit as they continue, and the neon pink glow from the pit was very pretty. There are some period-typical slurs which were so oddly used they made me cringe-laugh, but otherwise a solid little kids horror film. Think the Goonies meets Gremlins with some Poltergeist and Ghostbusters."
"Great 80’s horror classic from 1987! Cheesy script, hokey direction, corny acting & campy effects…PERFECTION!!❤️🍿🤩 Amazon Prime "
