"Most movies about slavery are difficult to watch, because of the brutality and archaic mindset of the slave owners and oppressors, this movie is no different. Difficult to watch but necessary for the historical accuracy. Great performances from Will Smith and Ben Foster alike, and I thought that filming it in black and white was a good choice as it provided a historical tone and added to the stark dreariness of the subject matter. Very well done. 8.5/10"
