"A nice adventure film based off a book about a boy looking for his sister, when a magician comes to the village his act brings something that will help the boy! Worth watching as the boy is given three impossible act to complete by the king and how in those acts renews the joy in himself and the villagers!"
"Okay, that was cute.
Incredibly predictable, overly cheesy, a bit of a cliche, but man, was it cute. I'm not sure that it knew the world it was trying to build, but it still was fun.
Your kids will enjoy it, you'll like the animation, & it does have some good messages.
The King was an unexpected twist that I really enjoyed. I thought his progression & plot points were entertaining. He & the countess were not what I expected, but you could predict later on. Despite that, I routed for it. That goes into my next point of the countess. She was more than I thought she be. I also enjoyed how she went about in the 3rd task. It made sense.
Now, onto the leader of the guard & his wife. Let me clarify again. Everyones progression was to be expected. However, these two had more heart than I was originally led to believe. I enjoyed every moment with them. You could see the love & care they had for one another.
Next is the main character & the sister. They made them siblings before they realized they were siblings. It's a creative choice, but honestly, it felt forced. I think Peter had a great story in him, but the sister aspect just seemed a bit much at times. It gave the story depth to have her, but I didn't care much for her. I would've been fine with him never finding her, which doesn't reflect well on the character.
Time to talk about that ending. It was something. Cute & a little fulfilling but needed just a tad more tweaking in the editing department. I think they were on the precipice of amazing but settled for where they were. It's good enough but nothing to make it stand out in the vast sea of kids movies we have.
I think Netflix's latest trend with making an emotional kids movie, with a crud ton of fantasy & maybe magic thrown in, while also commenting on society is what they're going to keep doing. In this movie, everything felt kind of shoved down your throat.
It's good, cute even, but not a masterpiece by any means. Still it's worth seeing."
