"This is the first part of a two movie series about the familiar sword wielding heroes. I watched it in the original French language, but the English dub is available on Hulu streaming as well. I will give this film four stars because of its realism. It certainly feels as if I was visiting the period in time in which the books are written. France is in turmoil as t
King Louis and his reign are threatened by the ambitious Cardinal. We all know the story. The actors are very good, and of course the sword play is excellent. I have to admit, though, that I would have preferred simply to have a longer movie than to see the plot split into two parts. I liked how D'artagnan's character was developed, as well as that of Athos, but the other Musketeers seemed relegated to smaller characters simply for him to talk to. I love Eva Green, and I was simply delighted to see her speak in her native French tongue. She seemed to relish being the villain, and she does a good job. Other parts of the plot feel a little lopsided, but that may be to justify the second movie. French audio, with English dub available."
"I'm so glad I decided to watch this because it's easily one of my favorite adaptations of any Dumas story. Everyone was great in their roles and the action looked cool. Biggest surprise: seeing Jacob Lloyd-Fortune as Duc de Buckingham! I can't wait to see the part 2 after that cliffhanger."
