A satirical inversion of the ideal of the perfect American nuclear family, they are an eccentric wealthy family who delight in everything grotesque and macabre, and are never really aware that people find them bizarre or frightening. In fact, they themselves are often terrified by "normal" people.

"I know everyone is discovering the Addams family through the new Wednesday show. But you should check out the original show. Yes, it was made in the 60s and is not as sophisticated as newer writing. But it’s really funny and creative. You need to watch a few episodes and then it just becomes better. Before new Wednesday did her dance (and it’s awesome) the OG Wednesday did the dance The Drew and killed it (YouTube it). The show is a lot of fun. Also, hidden message, somewhat subtle. This was the 60s and it was common to not allow blacks or Jewish people to live in white neighborhoods. So the show was pushing that it’s okay to have (or allow) people to move into your neighborhood that are non-white or non-Christian. In some episodes Morticia would say bubbale (boob-a-lah) and Gomez would reply “Tish, that’s French!” But it’s not, it’s Yiddish. There are other examples you can look up. And if you like the shows, you should read Charles Addams original cartoons. I’ll post the book."
"I could watch this all day. And I have in some cases. "
