Stepping into the late-late slot vacated by David Letterman, Conan O'Brien stars in a show that far outdoes its competition in sheer strangeness. Along with the celebrity interviews and musical numbers typical of late-night talk shows, this program make frequent use of odd walk-on characters and frequent "visits" from celebrity guests.

"Conan and Craig Ferguson were the last great late night hosts. This new group is unfunny, woke, and lame. Carson was the very best at doing this right. He joked about everyone. Politicians, media, Hollywood, etc but never made you feel like he was picking sides. Letterman was the more snide but still very funny and quick. When it was Leno, Letterman, and then Conan and Craig... Late night was awesome. Now it's just pandering and completely unfunny. Fire them all and start over. "
"Conan's original late night show was absolutely the best thing on late night right up until it ended. He had so many side bits, it was so absurd, full of dark humor, and had this "Well, we might get taken off the air tomorrow, but it *was* funny" attitude that—with his great self-deprecating humor and comedic timing—it ended up being brilliant. His TBS show is honestly just poor imitation comparatively."
