It’s 1882 and the Gilded Age is in full swing when Marian Brook, a young orphaned daughter of a Southern general, moves in with her rigidly conventional aunts in New York City. With the help of Peggy Scott, an African-American woman masquerading as her maid, Marian gets caught up in the dazzling lives of her rich neighbors as she struggles to decide between adhering to the rules or forging her own path.

"Seeing Cynthia Nixon in this part was a little strange on the heels of watching Sex in the City but the story and background history ( Thomas Edison) made it worth it. Love this period of time, if you enjoyed Downton Abbey, you need to watch this one as well."

"Originally meant to be a prequel to Downton Abbey but that was scrapped for whatever reasons. I just know I love it so far! I've always been a fan of the whole "upstairs downstairs" kind of show. Not sure how much of the servants lives we'll get to follow but it does hint toward it being at least a little bit. Plus, it comes from Julian Fellowes so if course it's great! "
