"A great series adaptation of a dark fantasy based off the novel, then light novel and manga series of the same name about a gamer who is sent to another world and given a shield as his weapon to help save it from waves! Worth watching as his reputation is destroyed by betrayal, sending him down a dark path to survive while finding a way back home!"
"It's a unique take on isekais.
This is one of the most infuriating shows you can come across. The 1st episode plot is entirely too clear & it makes you angry. I legit stopped it halfway & didn't go back for a while due to the frustration. You hate every character except for one & even that one you start to hate a little too. But there's this tiny feeling that keeps you hooked just enough to keep going.
However, a lot of it is annoying & embarrassing to watch. You're going to be so mad at the show that you're gonna wish you never started watching it. It also is trying to be subtle & slow with the harem aspect in a way to be clever but it's still so obvious & annoying you'll get mad at it.
Now you're wondering why I gave it 4 stars. Because the writer took a gamble & it paid off. They made you hate absolutely everything & how the circumstances were so awful, all to make that climax all the more sweet. If you can stick around for the end & the big payoff it makes everything worth watching. The frustrations towards the entire plot is suddenly lifted you can't help but like it. You may remember the first part of the season with annoyance & not want to rewatch the frustrating aspects, but you'll be far too happy you made it to the end. Because that ride to that point was something else no other show can capture.
The characters are complex. They get deeper than you expect & actually have a well written experience. Then the unique take on the isekai with how the main character, the great shield hero is treated, makes the show refreshing. Seeing how the world & the people react to the heroes & their exploits makes for such a fun dive into the world. It makes sense, which only enhances the show as a whole.
Overall, it's a different version of an isekai that's not out there. One that you'll love to finish but kind of hate the journey. Yet that destination is worth it all. Once you make it to the end you can't help but be happy."
"I like this type of revenge story line, but I didn't care for how Raphtalia was sexualixed, especially at first, kinda icky but the plot is really good so its easy to just look past or skip the weird parts "
