RETURN TO THE WORLD OF THE BRIDGERTONS . . . ________________________________________ A generation before the Bridgertons, there were the Rokesbys . . . Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers, and she's not opposed: their families have been neighbours for centuries. There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate: George. He may be the eldest, and heir to the earldom, but he's arrogant, annoying and she's certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can't stand the sight of him, either. But when Billie and George are quite literally thrown together, a whole new sort of sparks begin to fly. And when these lifelong adversaries finally kiss, they just might discover that the one person they can't abide is the one person they can't live without . . . Return to the world of the Bridgertons with this first book in a dazzlingly witty prequel series from Sunday Times bestselling author Julia Quinn, featuring the ancestors of the Bridgertons you know and love. ________________ Find out why readers love Julia Quinn . . . "This was a good read for me, with great witty banter between the two main characters Billie Bridgerton and George Rokesby, as expected with a Julia Quinn novel. We open up with Billie stuck in a tree, after attempting to rescue a seemingly ungrateful cat. Then enters George into the story, who has known Billie her entire life since the Rokesbys and Bridgertons live up the road from one another. They start off at the beginning really disliking each other, but as predicted in any romance novel, they slowly start to fall for each other. This was a very, very slow burn, which sometimes dragged on just a little bit. With that being said, I really liked how the characters slowly started to appreciate the other person’s idiosyncrasies and traits, as well as their mutual attractions for one another. I also really enjoyed the dynamic between George and his family, particularly with his brother Andrew and his meddling mother Lady Manston. The random espionage plot at the end felt both necessary and unnecessary at the same time because of George’s brother Edward being missing in revolutionary America. The singular sex scene almost at the very end was well executed and not at all gratuitous, which goes a long way in upping my rating. In general, this is a really great read for fans of funny, whip-smart banter between the romantic leads and an engaging set of side characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, which follows Edward’s adventures in America."
"Billie Bridgerton is 23, single, and a lady who disregards some social norms. The Bridgerton family is dear friends with the Rokesby family, so it is assumed that one day Billie will marry one of their middle sons. However, Billie falls on a roof saving a cat and, the oldest brother, George saves her. George and Billie have never gotten along. While helping Billie with a broken ankle from her fall he begins to take interest in her. Billie is running her family manor because her dad is older and her brother is still in college. It is not until Mrs. Rokesby brings Billie to London with her in George in search of information on her son’s Andrew’s missing status in the colonies that George falls in love with Billie. He is jealous when other men begin to take interest in her. Also, she was bold and brave when she needed to be, saving him from being used to transport information about the war in the colonies. After their wedding, they receive word that Andrew has been located! "
