"I have quite a bit of problems with this movie. First, why is it named Mako when the shark(s?) attacking them are great whites? Even in the film, it is said that they are being attacked by mako sharks but they are very obviously not makos. Ahh. Secondly, there is so much going on plot-wise, and despite being advertised as a shark movie, the shark aspect gets put on the back burner most of the film. Honestly, it feels like the sharks were added to gain attention and viewers but the real goal was to spread awareness about this sunken ship (the true aspect of the story). Third, when the characters go underwater it's hard to identify them making it hard to follow the plot. Add to that the fact that there's a lot of them and they each have their own story, it's a confusing movie. Fourth, based on the last two points, they should've changed the main character and focused on that one person instead (won't say who). Lastly, the ending was abrupt and left a couple loose ends which is always frustrating but more so when it feels like sloppy writing and not intentional - which i guess can be its own point cause there were multiple plot choices that felt unnecessary and not well thought out. I wish they'd just made this a movie about the ship wreck. It would've been more informative and surely better received."
"It's refreshing to have a shark attack movie with an actual story. True, it takes some time before we even see the Red Sea, but then, that's the cost of having an actual story. The underwater scenes are tense, the shark behaviour is more apt than most films in the genre, and the acting is top notch. As with any in the subgenre, I have some issues with it, but they are few. So, drum roll please...
