"Have you ever thought about what would happen if Aladdin hadn’t used the lamp first, what if Jafar had gotten the lamp and used it for his own gain from the beginning? In this book, this twisted tale- that is exactly what happens. Aladdin still meets Jasmine in the market, they still fall in love after running from the guards that Jafar sent, and Aladdin still gets thrown into the dungeon and is told to go get the magic lamp from the cave. However in this turn of event’s Aladdin gets trapped in the cave when it caves in, without the lamp. Jafar takes the lamp and uses his first two wishes to become Sultan and to become the most powerful sorcerer. Agrabah is forced to live in fear, there’s a curfew, money and food has become a trick for the people to pledge loyalty to Jafar. Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Street Rats must find a way to save their city. In this book there is a rebellion, there is joining together of people from different walks of life, and it shows the importance of community. This book was a wonderful twisted tale for me, it still had the key factors but there was enough changed to keep me entranced. Anddddddd it involves ghouls, magic, and a fight of rebellion. This made me like the characters more. I suggest you read if you enjoy Disney or the uprising of a city."
"This book is too graphically gruesome to bear the Disney stamp. Someone's head is twisted off his body in great detail. Wow. This is not advertised as horror. People will offer it to little children because it says Disney. I expected it to be more like the Mulan book. Same character, same theme, new setting and challenges. Mulan is a soldier during a war put in the underworld in her twisted tale and there is less blood and gore than three quarters of this book. Did not finish. Zombies, really?"
"Loved it! Exciting the whole entire time. The characters were great and so was the writing "

"I thoroughly enjoyed how complex Jafar and Jasmine became in this story. They are brought out of that one dimensional stereotype of villain and damsel in distress and given depth and nuance not seen in the Disney films. I also love the notion that in order to gain your wishes, you must sacrifice something held dear, an idea that didn't truly make it into the first Aladdin movie. "
