Mazey Eddings
"Mazey Eddings’s writing is authentic, emotional, and intensely romantic! To me, it’s like a Taylor Swift song in book form." - New York Times bestselling author Ali HazelwoodWhat starts out as a fake wedding date turns into something these childhood enemies never expected in The Plus One, a sparkling romantic comedy by Mazey Eddings. She’s not looking to fix him. She’s looking to love him, if he’ll let her in.Some facts are indisputable. The sun rises in the east, sets in the west. Gravity exists. Indira doesn’t like Jude. Jude doesn’t like Indira. But what happens when these childhood enemies find the only thing they can rely on is each other? On paper, Indira has everything together. An amazing job, a boyfriend, and a car. What more could a late twenty-something ask for? But when she walks in on her boyfriend in an amorous embrace with a stranger, that perfect on paper image goes up in flames. Jude has nothing together. A doctor that’s spent the last three years traveling the world to treat emergencies and humanitarian crises, a quick trip home for his best friend’s wedding has him struggling to readjust.Thrust into an elaborate (and ridiculously drawn out) wedding event that’s stressing Jude beyond belief and has Indira seeing her ex and his new girlfriend far more frequently than any human should endure, the duo strike a bargain to be each other’s fake dates to this wedding from hell. The only problem is, their forced proximity and fake displays of affection are starting to feel a bit...real, and both are left grappling with the idea that a situation that couldn’t be worse, is made a little better with the other around.

"This book made me laugh, make me nearly cry, but left me wanting to read it all over again once I finished. Mazey Eddings has such a way with writing that really makes you feel. I love the childhood enemies to lovers trope and this one is just so magical. I love that it takes work for these couples to work and Indira and Jude really have excellent communication! Sometimes it is just needing time to form thoughts or letting the other person know you love them no matter what. Jude's journey is especially heartbreaking and then heart-rebuilding (if thats even a thing!?). While this book touches on some really deep and meaningful subject, it also has very light-hearted moments. I loved seeing glimpses of previous characters and their funny moments and times together. The group chats were great and I found myself smiling so much throughout this book. Also, the Philly and Manayunk locations?! I called Manayunk home for several years and Mazey nailed the descriptions (those horridly steep hills!). And then the spice! This book certainly brings the heat and is so well done! It doesn't feel unrealistic and adds such depth to the book. Lastly, the several conclusions looking forward in the life of these friends. I loved knowing how they all ended up and their endings could not have been anymore perfect for this series. I look forward to where Mazy Eddings takes us next! 5 stars, 3.5 spice"

"Getting through this book was hard. Not because of the mental health descriptions but because of the slow plot and writing style. This is strictly my opinion, but I really did not the like the writing style. It had the classic “don’t tell, show” problem where it felt like the author was explaining every thought the characters had. I’m not sure if using first person POV would have helped at all, but it was hard to read. It didn’t feel realistic to have the characters be self aware enough to analyze every single thought and feeling they felt as they were having them. Maybe later in their room, etc, but I think the third person POV really did not help the characters feel there dimensional. The plot also felt really slow; after they got together, which was the main conflict, it felt like the author was just drawing it out to tie up every single conflict she mentioned. I think that if Jude’s mental health had been the main conflict/focus it would’ve read better, but from the beginning with the two person POV it seemed like their relationship was the main conflict. Every time I read a booktok romance book I’m hopeful it’ll be good and they disappoint every time. I really wanted to like this and I wish I did. "
"OMFG. I LOVE THIS AUTHOR. Mazey Eddings does a perfect mix of the characters personalities and the events that make this book just good but safe feeling. I wouldn’t say that this is a super crazy book about the plot but I really loved the characters and BEST PART is most of the story from my observations is the male love interest Jude. I would say it was about half and half but a little more him. I really love that aspect because you don’t see that often and she does it with all of her books. The characters have amazing banter and both are their personalities are just ughhh so good. Jude is emotional because of his issues but i really enjoyed the amount of vulnerability that was in this book. It was so raw. They compliment each other and I love how they both have needs that the other one effortlessly fulfills. The humor is awesome too. It’s not anything out of this world but it just makes you smile. Additional plus is the spice is pretty sensual. I just started another one that is a sequel to this- or ig this is the sequel to that but you get what I mean. There are several books that come to form one story but you don’t have to read different books to understand each one. I really recommend this book and this author. This book just overall is a nice light, hearty, raw, charismatic, funny book."
"Can’t say how much I loved this! Bought it on a whim while on a book buying spree. Decided to read it when I needed something fun. This book had me cackling so many times! It also was super sweet and cute. Loved the bickering early on in the book."
