Stephen Graham Jones
The “riotously entertaining” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) final installment in the most lauded trilogy in the history of horror novels picks up four years after Don’t Fear the Reaper as Jade returns to Proofrock, Idaho, to build a life after the years of sacrifice—only to find the Lake Witch is waiting for her in New York Times bestselling author Stephen Graham Jones’s finale. It’s been four years in prison since Jade Daniels last saw her hometown of Proofrock, Idaho, the day she took the fall, protecting her friend Letha and her family from incrimination. Since then, her reputation, and the town, have changed dramatically. There’s a lot of unfinished business in Proofrock, from serial killer cultists to the rich trying to buy Western authenticity. But there’s one aspect of Proofrock no one wants to confront…until Jade comes back to town. The curse of the Lake Witch is waiting, and now is the time for the final stand. New York Times bestselling author Stephen Graham Jones has crafted an epic horror trilogy of generational trauma from the Indigenous to the townies rooted in the mountains of Idaho. It is the story of the American west written in blood.

"I guess it kind of answered the questions I had from the first two books, but I'm still left feeling like I'm not sure. There wasn't a solid answer for the balance of supernatural and logically explained. The ending of the book was its saving grace."

"It’s so hard to say goodbye to Jade and Letha, but this book made it a little easier. I absolutely love Stephen Graham Jones’ writing style and how he can elevate the slasher into mythic proportions while still being a relevant story (Que future teachers breaking down his implied meaning behind “this” scene.) Just like any good slasher this book starts out with a murder that will launch the killing spree that is to come. Sticking with the pattern, this story takes place after Jade has served her time for the previous murder sprees destruction. She is now the history teacher at the high school which brings a nice sense of full circle closure to her life. I feel like I have known all along that Jade would be the person to carry on the torch in protecting and educating the teens of Proofrock, as she had such amazing mentors. At this point we all know that Jade has been through a lot and her character has aged from “I hope a killer comes to my town like in the movies” to a Danny Glover level of “I’m getting too old for this”. She is a well-honed slasher killing machine that is bolstered up by her friends and haunted by the ghosts of all that has come before. This book carries on the franchise rules for a slasher film. Anything and everything can and probably will happen and no one is safe from the destructive force. I am purposely not saying anything major about the story except this, <spoiler> you will think you know who the killer is and what is going on, but the good old red herring will get you in the end.</spoiler> I love how the girl power mindset has stayed strong through the entire trilogy. The woman in the books have always been there to boost each other up and genuinely seem to care about Proofrock. They are the glue of this franchise. From one Scream lover to another, I never get tired of hearing SGJ’s feelings and opinions on the movie even if it is through Jade’s mindset and life experiences. Her complete love of Scream and encyclopedic knowledge of slashers in general is what makes her a relatable character. I will never forget the story told in these three books and since I’m terrible at goodbyes I will probably reread the entire Lake Witch trilogy just to see Jade once more time. Jade Daniels is my Final Girl.<br/><br/>Thank you to Saga Press for sending me an advanced copy of this book and thank you to Stephen Graham Jones for bringing this story, and Jade Daniels, into my life. I have truly loved every second i have spent in the pages you have written.<br/><br/>This book is out in the wild today so head to your local independent bookstore or library to pick up a copy today."
