"Reread. Throughout the series you learn little bits here and there about John's life and I was excited for him to have a book of his own. The way the past and the present coalesced was a nice touch. I honestly started learning sign language because 1) I always wanted to and 2) I wanted to picture John talking. Also John's character arc was amazing to behold. Watching him grow was such a pleasure. Starting out alone, weak, with no where to turn and then ended up where he did with a good head on his shoulders was very admirable. He would make a great leader.

Xhex was a strong character too who went thru a lot and it honestly got hard to read even though Ward broached the subject very delicately. It was nice to get to know such a fierce female. But without trying to sound cruel I think her character took a nose dive. She was the only female who could stand toe to toe with all the brute males in the book. But after she started falling in love Xhex was always crying and blushing which just down right degraded her overall persona.

I really liked the way these books stack so much information throughout so you really get a sense of the world. I'm not sure how the author planned out all these stories beforehand but there is a lot of material from the past, present and future and it blends together very well. I have to pay extra attention to the story because there are always subtle hints of things to come."
"Lots of spice in this one. The main story is good, but the inclusion of two side stories seems like padding because otherwise the book would be far too short. The haunted mansion TV crew story in particular is bland and forgettable, and only tangentially ties into the main story. "

"Gurl.... you have no idea. This series is amazingly hot. The author describes it at action thriller horror meets ****. You're welcome. Read at least the first 5 or so, then decide if you want to invest in the whole series but some of my favorites (Lover At Last and The Beast are later on) "
