A warm and uplifting novel about an isolated witch whose opportunity to embrace a quirky new family--and a new love--changes the course of her life. As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don't mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she's used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos pretending to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously. But someone does. An unexpected message arrives, begging her to travel to the remote and mysterious Nowhere House to teach three young witches how to control their magic. It breaks all of the rules, but Mika goes anyway, and is immediately tangled up in the lives and secrets of not only her three charges, but also an absent archaeologist, a retired actor, two long-suffering caretakers, and...Jamie. The handsome and prickly librarian of Nowhere House would do anything to protect the children, and as far as he's concerned, a stranger like Mika is a threat. An irritatingly appealing threat. As Mika begins to find her place at Nowhere House, the thought of belonging somewhere begins to feel like a real possibility. But magic isn't the only danger in the world, and when a threat comes knocking at their door, Mika will need to decide whether to risk everything to protect a found family she didn't know she was looking for....

"Such a fun quick read. I wish I had read this around Halloween but my library didn’t have it in time. The characters were easy to love and all together this was a heart warming story. "

"So much heart and love in this book. Really, a great example of a slice-of-life or maybe cozy fantasy. For me, the tropes of the main characters were a little bit too prevalent (brooding man with dark past and sunshine girl with dark past) but they both help each other through their darkness in a healthy way. Absolutely loved the other characters. The twist at the end was very nicely done and the ending was satisfying. If someone is a fan of “The house in the Cerulean Sea”, they should enjoy this."

"3.75 star.
From the reviews, it seemed like some expected a lot more from this book. But as the cover suggests, The Very Secret Society of Witches is cutesy, wholesome, and fun. Almost like another Mary Poppins or a witchy Miss Honey from Matilda. There are beautiful connections here with a found family T.J. Klune vibe.
I just thought it all very unconventional and lovely with a great little tidy twist at the end. There was a nice fall atmosphere and a sunshine and grumpy slow-burn romance. Usually, I'm not one for romances with kids involved. I dunno the kids are usually used as men arm candy luring in women. But this was not the case here. Also the girls were very fun to be around. Annoying in the cutest of ways."
"Cozy book for Halloween or fall, I love a grumpy sunshine trope "

"I loved this book! The witchy aspects weren’t too over the top; they fit right in with the style of writing and plot of the story. The romance was the perfect balance of grumpy x sunshine; I loved that James would truly do anything to make Mika happy (even if he refused to admit it out loud). And the family Mika found she belonged to was such an amazing cast of characters. Ian, an old man with a large personality. Ken, a sweet grandpa figure who likes to garden. Lucie, a mother hen who just wants to keep everyone feed. James, a grouchy librarian who would fight anyone to keep his family safe. And finally the three young girls - Terracotta, stubborn and murderous, Rosetta, romantical and shy, and Altamira, crass and whimsical.

This is THE perfect cozy fantasy book to read on a rainy day curled up in front of the fireplace. While The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches will pull on your heart strings, it will leave you feeling warm and satisfied by the end.

Oh! I almost forgot. I would pay any price to get a book told from James’ point of view. I think his story would be so interesting and would add SO much to the experience of this love story. (And I don’t often want the same story told again in a different pov, let alone think it would add anything extra to the story)"

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book healed a part of me that I didn’t realize had been wounded. It was especially lovely getting me out of a slump and encouraging me to fall in love with falling in love again. What a spectacular treat!
This is a perfect, cozy and cute romance if you need a little pick me up from the doom and gloom of life. All the characters are incredibly wholesome, including the children (I detest children, but the good part about fictional kids is that they’re written with the mind of adults). The humor is great and easily to follow along with, there aren’t any high stakes, and there aren’t any stupid tropes that make you want to gag. It felt like reading a Ghibli movie (with a pinch of spice!), this book is just beautiful story that feels like a hug.
Jamie and Mika are the purest forms of grumpy x sunshine. I love love love them, their romance is so sweet. I was honestly surprised that the romance was as prevalent as it was, I thought it would take a major backseat to the rest of the plot. Don’t get me wrong, there IS more plot than romance, but I would say it’s a 60:40 ratio.
This is going right next to my heart with Emily Wilde’s stories - they’re the perfect cute and low stakes books that you sometimes need to remind you that there’s good in the world and things can end happily ever after!"
