"I found the premise and overall feel of the book at the beginning to be just my cup of tea, but sadly it did not continue on that way. I was disappointed mainly with the so called hero of the book. Jack Devlin is ruthless, in both his professional and personal life. He was especially ruthless when Amanda Briars decides to end their 3 month affair early because she could not risk it getting out that she was involved with her publisher (Mr. Devlin himself). It was most definitely one-sided and Amanda seemingly moves on to a stable, albeit boring fellow novelist Charles Hartley who could not be more understanding about her relationship with Jack. Then comes the inevitable drama of a (shocker) unplanned pregnancy. Charles, who she is seemingly going to end up engaged to, even after he discovered she is pregnant by another man, as long as she lets Jack know that they are going to raise the child independent of his involvement. Amanda doesn’t end up telling him and with the slip of Charles’ tongue, we end up with Jack basically blackmailing and threatening Amanda into marrying him. He is just sooo possessive and controlling over Amanda when he finds out that she has been hiding her pregnancy from him. It was actually quite upsetting how quickly she acquiesces to his demands. It rapidly moves on from Amanda being sort of engaged to Charles to then being married to Jack two seconds later, that I just ended up feeling really bad for him. Can’t Charles just catch a break (did I not mention that he is a widow as well?). After that it’s happy times on the face of it and yet there was more of the book left to read. Finally, Jack moves on so quickly in the book in terms of his values about not wanting children AT ALL to being so excited about it, which really annoyed me because that’s simply not realistic. To have it then end with a miscarriage just felt like a cheap trick that was so very unnecessary and trivial. It felt like Jack was owed something after Amanda had been through this terrible trauma of miscarriage and he was putting all the onus on her to feel better right away.

I know throughout this review, I’m making it seem like a hated my complete experience with this book, but what I was mostly upset by was the overall aspects was Jack’s characterization. Had it evolved a bit better throughout the book, I might have given the book a better rating."
"Very saucy, the main characters had great chemistry. "
