A decadent rock star. A deeply religious radio host. A disgraced scientist. And a teenage girl who may be the world’s last hope. From the mind of Chuck Wendig comes “a magnum opus . . . a story about survival that’s not just about you and me, but all of us, together” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review).NOMINATED FOR THE BRAM STOKER AWARD • ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: The Washington Post, NPR, The Guardian, Kirkus Reviews, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Polygon Shana wakes up one morning to discover her little sister in the grip of a strange malady. She appears to be sleepwalking. She cannot talk and cannot be woken up. And she is heading with inexorable determination to a destination that only she knows. But Shana and her sister are not alone. Soon they are joined by a flock of sleepwalkers from across America, on the same mysterious journey. And like Shana, there are other “shepherds” who follow the flock to protect their friends and family on the long dark road ahead. For as the sleepwalking phenomenon awakens terror and violence in America, the real danger may not be the epidemic but the fear of it. With society collapsing all around them—and an ultraviolent militia threatening to exterminate them—the fate of the sleepwalkers depends on unraveling the mystery behind the epidemic. The terrifying secret will either tear the nation apart—or bring the survivors together to remake a shattered world. In development for TV by Glen Mazzara, executive producer of The Walking Dead • Look for the sequel, Wayward, now available! “This career-defining epic deserves its inevitable comparisons to Stephen King’s The Stand.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review) “A suspenseful, twisty, satisfying, surprising, thought-provoking epic.”—Harlan Coben, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Run Away “A true tour de force.”—Erin Morgenstern, New York Times bestselling author of The Night Circus “A masterpiece with prose as sharp and heartbreaking as Station Eleven.”—Peng Shepherd, author of The Book of M “A magnum opus . . . "Honestly it’s been over 3 years since I actually read this book and I don’t remember much except it being my introduction to modern horror novels and being completely blown away. I was terrified and riveted. It ignited a love of zombies that hasn’t left me since. I did not have much luck with the sequel to this book, but I always remember “Wanderers” with fondness and reverence for the feelings it was able to illicit from me as a teenager.
It’s a truly scary and technically fascinating work of suspense and horror exploring medical/body horror (the sleepwalkers and the bat-nose fungus being viscerally nasty), sci-fi questions about humanity (nanotech, godlike AI personalities, military technology) and the frightening realities of the media literacy crisis in America.
Parts of this book were almost too visceral for me to stomach, but made an impression on me and made me more invested in the education of the American public."
"The style and pace reminded me of King’s Under the Dome. Interesting and thrilling. "

"This was a great book that didn't shy away from it's parallels to "the Stand" (arguably my favourite book). There were a ton of twists and turns I didn't expect, and had a hard time putting it down.

The ending was a little predictable and disappointing (still a 5 star book though) because I honestly don't know how else you would end it."
"(Spoiler free) The reveal of the main antagonist. "

"This book was fucjibg spectacular. Like an idiot, I didn’t know it was horror until it was too late, but this is what made me give more gruesome stories a second chance. The writing is beautiful, real, and terrifying. It’s disgusting in a positive way and I couldn’t put it down. 11/10 would traumatize myself with this book again"
"There was never any moment where I was "wowed" by this book. I found the political commentary abysmal, which is crazy because I love political commentary. It all felt too blasé and on the nose. It's also one of those stories where the concept is miles ahead of the execution. Actual rating is 3.5."
"Lovely characters with BITE, markedly different voices and personalities you can feel, no lazy plot holes, dynamic and extremely gratifying relationships between the characters— all around fantastic character writing. Wonderful. I learned so much, laughed so much, shivered so much, worried so much— I was SO deeply impacted by this novel. The bar for every other fiction is set so high now, I’m begging you to give this a serious go."
