From the author of The Best Laid Plans comes another fresh voiced, hilarious rom-com perfect for fans of You Have a Match and The Rest of the Story.Penny Harris just ruined her life. As one of the most popular girls in school, she's used to being invited to every party, is dating the Jordan Parker, and can't wait to rule senior year with her best friend, Olivia. But when Penny wakes up on Jordan's lawn the morning after his first-day-of-summer bash, she knows something went horribly wrong the night before. She kissed Kai Tanaka. Kai, her longtime nemesis. Kai, Olivia's boyfriend. Penny can't figure out what could have inspired her to do it--she loves Jordan and she would never hurt Olivia--but one thing's for sure: freshly dumped, and out a best friend, the idyllic summer she pictured is over. And despite the fact that Jordan seems to be seeking comfort (and a whole lot more) in Olivia, all Penny can think about is winning him back. Kai wants to save his relationship too, so they come up with a plan: convince their friends that they really do have feelings for each other. After all, everyone forgives a good love story, and maybe seeing Penny and Kai together will make Jordan and Olivia change their minds. But as summer heats up, so does Penny and Kai's "relationship," and Penny starts to question whether she's truly faking it with Kai, if he's really as terrible as she always thought he was, and if the life she's fighting so hard to get back is the one she really wants.

"I really like Kai. If I ever had a type, Kai was it. That's the thing about this book. It's relatable in some unique ways and at the same time quite cheesy. I was kind of reverse the MC. I was the toxic little sidekick in middle school, and then a book-reading loner in early high school. Or really most of high school considering all I did in grade 12 was also sit in my house and read but online school does that to you. Where am I going with this? This was a really enjoyable read. It had a lot of good moments that made me read them back a few times. There was a bit of a "reveal" toward the end and it was all extremely predictable, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment. I like that it ends at the beginning of senior year really hopefully. Like they still have a chance to do things the way they should've been all along. Honestly, like I said, I'm about to graduate and I interacted with basically nobody all year so I'm sad but I don't blame it on the book. And I read it in one sitting after a week-long slump! Points for that.

PS. their graduating class is like 56 people and I have to point it out cuz that is insanely tiny to me. It is like an eighth of my grade at school. My elementary school graduating class was like 60-something. Hmm but maybe their middle school class was also 56 people and they're so isolated they're the only school that feeds into their high school or something. Whatever. It's irrelevant. But I kinda fee bad for them cuz the whole magic of high school is that your world expands and middle school doesn't have to matter"
