Ann Aguirre's thrilling young adult novel Enclave is the story of two young people in an apocalyptic world--facing dangers, and feelings, unlike any they've ever known. New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters--or Freaks--who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight--guided by Fade's long-ago memories--in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs.

"Ok! This one was really good up to the part where rape was involved. I liked the book, I really did, but when the rape was involved it seemed to me that it was taken very lightly in the book almost as if it didn't matter. To me, that wasn't okay and I definitely wasn't comfortable with that. If you're not sensitive about rape I guess you might like it."
"3.5 round up to 4

This book is a easy read. Despite the sudden transitions that bothered me throughout the book.

Like most books it didn’t pick up until the middle in my opinion. I feel like it was super redundant after a while. But adding in more characters such as Tegan and Stalker made the book much more entertaining at the end.

The main character Deuce annoyed me at the beginning but grew on me. I loved her devotion to fight and her bravery. She is strong physically and mentally, which I appreciate.

I thought Stalkers sudden change in character was strange. Although it was a good change in character. I have a hard time believing that someone who was raised to be so brutal can automatically change into a “good” person so quickly. I think in reality it wouldn’t be the case. It wouldn’t definitely take longer than how the book makes it out to be.

I would have liked to see more connection between Deuce and Fade or better yet, make a love triangle between Deuce, Fade, and Stalker. Just to spice things up. But at the end of the day the book isn’t about romance. It’s about fighting for your life. So I can appreciate that it didn’t derail from the story line.

I am still a new reader and I’m stilling learning to distinguish what writing style I enjoy the most. As I’m learning this about myself, I learned that I don’t particularly like books that doesn’t bring a lot of emotion out of me. Enclave didn’t satisfy this for me which is why I didn’t enjoy it as much compared to other things I have read.

I would have liked to learn more about the past and reason behind the Deterioration of modern life. I understand it was from a plague but I would have enjoyed a bit more elaboration. I did like learning how life would be if something like this occurred. Makes me wonder"

"Yes! If I remember correctly, it ends on a cliff hanger. As it's a part of a trilogy "
