INSTANT USA TODAY BESTSELLER!A professional baseball player and his heckler prove that true love is worth going to bat for in the next swoony romance by USA Today bestselling author Alicia Thompson. Daphne Brink doesn’t follow baseball, but watching “America’s Snoozefest” certainly beats sitting at home in the days after she signs her divorce papers. After one too many ballpark beers, she heckles Carolina Battery player Chris Kepler, who quickly proves there might actually be a little crying in baseball. Horrified, Daphne reaches out to Chris on social media to apologize . . . but forgets to identify herself as his heckler in her message. Chris doesn’t usually respond to random fans on social media, but he’s grieving and fragile after an emotionally turbulent few months. When a DM from “Duckie” catches his eye, he impulsively messages back. Duckie is sweet, funny, and seems to understand him in a way no one else does. Daphne isn’t sure how much longer she can keep lying to Chris, especially as she starts working with the team in real life and their feelings for each other deepen. When he finds out the truth, will it be three strikes, she’s out?

"From the first third, I was genuinely having a good time, then, the conflict went on too long, and then it wrapped up too neatly. There was truly no mess to this, which, when the promise of the premise is a lie, you need mess. Chris and Daphne were a little too wooden, and I wish we got more Of them. Over all, underwhelming."
"sooo good. would’ve liked things between daphne and chris to be more dragged out once the truth came out. feels like it was resolved way too quickly but loved the story nonetheless. reminds me of jem and the holograms where jem/jericha have two identities and rio likes both ahaha "

"I love baseball and I love books. Fastball has always been one of my favorites bands so I loved the reference to The Way. And, my favorite team was referenced twice, so it was a good time."

"I know all is fair in love and baseball, but the further I read in this book, the more anxious and irritated I became. The constant lying was actually insane. Layla’s response to it was perfectly acceptable because catfishing someone and then trying to date them as yourself afterwards is the work of a crazy person. Chris deserved better.

Overall, I do appreciate the mental health representation, the steamy scenes were well written, and I love all of the book talk and Taylor Swift references. However, all of those are small shiny moments for what was otherwise a very average book, with not a lot happening (other than my blood pressure raising as I screamed at the page for Daphne to just tell the truth).

Read this book if you enjoy:
✨ Lying, liars who lie
⚾️ Baseball Romance
✨ Workplace Romance"
