America's next favorite Australian author!"With jaw-dropping discoveries and realistic consequences, this novel is not to be missed. Perfect for lovers of Big Little Lies." —Library Journal, starred reviewSmall, perfect towns often hold the deepest secrets. From the outside, Essie’s life looks idyllic: a loving husband, a beautiful house in a good neighborhood, and a nearby mother who dotes on her grandchildren. But few of Essie’s friends know her secret shame: that in a moment of maternal despair, she once walked away from her newborn, asleep in her carriage in a park. Disaster was avoided and Essie got better, but she still fears what lurks inside her, even as her daughter gets older and she has a second baby. When a new woman named Isabelle moves in next door to Essie, she is an immediate object of curiosity in the neighborhood. Why single, when everyone else is married with children? Why renting, when everyone else owns? What mysterious job does she have? And why is she so fascinated with Essie? As the two women grow closer and Essie’s friends voice their disapproval, it starts to become clear that Isabelle’s choice of neighborhood was no accident. And that her presence threatens to bring shocking secrets to light. The Family Next Door is Sally Hepworth at her very best: at once a deeply moving portrait of family drama and a compelling suburban mystery that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

"Sally Hepworth, you have redeem yourself in my eyes! Each one of these families have something going on in each one of these houses!!

Each one pretending to prefect when they open that door! And walk out! I loved it from the 1st page to the last page! It was a nice step from the dark books I been reading but still with the thriller feel!!

I wanted to know what was happening asap! Lol I was wrong on what was actually happening tho!!"
""Something no one told you about real life was that it was complicated."
If the women of Pleasant Court put as much effort into their relationships as they do maintaining their pristine facades, they might actually find some happiness. On the surface, Pleasant Court is the picture-perfect neighborhood, home to families who seem to have it all together. But behind the trimmed hedges and immaculate lawns lies many secrets.

Then there is the arrival of a single woman—husbandless and childless—that throws Pleasant Court off its axis. Her very existence disrupts the carefully curated image of the community. In fact, they go so far as to speculate about her sexuality—because surely, no one would willingly move into their idyllic neighborhood without a husband or kids in tow, right?

From the moment she enters the story, her misplacement is obvious, even to the reader. But her reasoning is what keeps us reading. As her story unfolds, she quickly became my favorite character. In a neighborhood defined by secrecy, she’s refreshingly authentic—always ready to help, always there to listen, no matter how messy or dark the confession. She brought a light to the story that I desperately wished to see mirrored in the rest of the characters.

This book kept me hooked, with twists that left my jaw dropping more times than I could count. By the time the final revelations came, I was eagerly turning pages, soaking in every detail of this gripping, complicated tale."
