"The beginning of this review is going to be me complaining about other books and what a breath of fresh air this story was. No idiotic dialog, no repetitive thoughts, no guessing where the story was headed. Just utter bliss.
The story and the romance were very slow pace, yet somehow the sorry never dulled. The magic system was unique, and the world building was gritty and intriguing. Gilene and Azarion kept me guessing. Their wild spirits fighting one another I never knew which way the story was headed.
Unfortunately, it took me a while to write this review. I got caught up in other things and other stories, and I forgot all about this book. It's was missing something for me personally, and it's hard to figure out what that something was. Maybe the story didn't give me the emotions I was seeking, or I didn't see enough depth of the side characters. I dunno but there it is. While I liked the book, I didn't have enough of my heart into it to read the next one."
"I’m currently reading and I am halfway through. I’ll update the rating when I’ve finished. I loved Radiance. I thought it was achingly romantic. This book however, is such a slow burn that half way through the lead lady said she doesn’t think she hates the guy any more. It feels like they are so emotionally distant that the love story feels like it’s lagging. There are lots of high stakes things going on… and the tone is weighty and serious. I just need a little break. Maybe something a bit light hearted after this. "

"not even sure when exactly I finished this one, since I DNF'd it with less than 100 pages left

I feel like the plot sounded promising, but overall was fairly underwhelming. I guess I was expecting a series where they fight the empire and such and such, though perhaps that was too much to ask.

good main characters, and I liked their relationship and that it wasn't instantaneous, though they didn't have me sold out for each other.

This book definitely didn't need to be as long as it did.

I guess this book was really just okay overall

on to the next!"
