Katherine Center
From the author of Happiness for Beginners comes the instant New York Times bestseller (May 2018), an unforgettable love story about finding joy even in the darkest of circumstances. Margaret Jacobsen is just about to step into the bright future she’s worked for so hard and so long: a new dream job, a fiancé she adores, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in a brief, tumultuous moment. In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Maggie must confront the unthinkable. First there is her fiancé, Chip, who wallows in self-pity while simultaneously expecting to be forgiven. Then, there's her sister Kit, who shows up after pulling a three-year vanishing act. Finally, there's Ian, her physical therapist, the one the nurses said was too tough for her. Ian, who won't let her give in to her pity, and who sees her like no one has seen her before. Sometimes the last thing you want is the one thing you need. Sometimes we all need someone to catch us when we fall. And sometimes love can find us in the least likely place we would ever expect. How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best—a masterpiece of a novel that is both hopeful and hilarious; truthful and wise; tender and brave.Praise for How to Walk Away:"A heartbreak of a novel that celebrates resilience and strength." —Jill Santopolo, bestselling author of The Light We Lost"If you just read one book this year, read How to Walk Away." —Nina George, New York Times bestselling author of The Little Paris Bookshop"Warm, witty, and wonderfully observed." —Emily Giffin, New York Times bestselling author of First Comes Love"Sympathetic and refreshing!" —Elinor Lipman, bestselling author of The Family Man"I can't think of a blurb good enough for this novel...poignant, funny, heartbreaking." —Jenny Lawson, bestselling author of Furiously Happy

"Um….. I am speechless, I don’t even know what to say right now. If there is only one book you read this year, let it be this one.
I noticed one thing I strongly felt after reading this was satisfaction.
This is my second Katherine Center book and DEFINITELY NOT MY LAST. <3 finished in 2 days omg, I could not put this down! This book is everything. It made me feel everything. I loooved all the characters, the growth, and their own individual stories. I wish I could read this again for the first time 😭 it was that special!!! There is a lot of heartbreak, pain and grief in this story but also a lot of resilience, hope, joy and acceptance. 🩵
I actually adored Ian and this read actually just so happened to be my first grumpy x sunshine which I really enjoyed.
Hope everyone has the opportunity to read this book at some point 🤍✨ I will never stop recommending !"
"This is probably my favorite book by Katherine. I recommend it to everyone. I’ve liked a lot of her other books but this is by far my favorite. Read it in one day! "

""You get one life, and it only goes forward. And there really are all kinds of happy endings".

A story about one day that changed Margaret's life forever. A plane crash has left her a paraplegic, jeopardizing her romantic relationship, her mental health and relationships with her family.

I really enjoyed this book. I found the writing very easy to read and I constantly wanted to stop everything I was doing to read it (doesn't really fly when that thing is your job!). It reminded me a little of TJR's MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE, minus the separate life paths. I loved how it was more than just physical recovery, but emotional and familial recovery. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Kit and their mother, and actually found them more similar than different; I also enjoyed the special bond both girls had with their sweet father.

Most of all, I really liked Margaret as the protagonist and narrator of the story. I enjoyed reading the story from her point of you, as it really captured the personal effects of the accident. Her initial relationship with Ian, I found quite hilarious. I liked how sassy, but reserved he was; and even though I pinned that they would some how develop a romantic relationship almost immediately, I liked how it was a slow burn, rather then immediately hot and steamy. Finally, I really liked the epilogue. I don't generally get much from epilogues, but this one was very well done. I don't know if I've spoiled too much already, so I'm going to leave it at that!

I gave this book 4 stars, because I really liked it. I didn't LOVE it, but it's definitely up there. I found Ian and Margaret's relationship a bit predictable and unrealistic in the real world, given Ian's profession as Margaret's physical therapist. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading it though!"
